Camera Vault Update: Backup & Restore, Dark Mode, and a New Settings Tab
The latest Camera Vault update brings backup and restore via ZIP export, light/dark/system mode support, a redesigned Settings tab, and cleaner navigation throughout the app.
Okay so if you've been using My Camera Vault — first of all, thank you, genuinely. And second, I have some updates that I think you're actually going to like.
This one's been a while coming. I've been quietly building out a bunch of features that felt missing from the original version, and they're all live now on iOS (and in testing on Android). Here's what's new.
Backup & Restore
This is the big one. You can now export your entire vault — all your camera and lens data plus every photo you've attached — as a single ZIP file. Save it to your Files app, send it to yourself, keep it somewhere safe. Then import it back anytime, either merging with your existing collection or doing a full replace.
Great for switching phones or just having a backup that you actually trust.
Settings tab
Everything that used to be scattered around the app — exports, imports, appearance — is now in one place. Cleaner navigation, less hunting around. The export options (cameras CSV, lenses CSV, full collection, backup ZIP) are all there too, so if you just want a spreadsheet export rather than a full backup, that's still an option.
Light mode, dark mode, system default
The app now supports all three. It defaults to following your device's system setting, so if you're already in dark mode on your phone, Camera Vault will match it automatically. You can override it anytime in Settings if you have a preference.
A few other things
There are also some smaller updates: the camera and lens detail screens got cleaner edit buttons, the Stats tab is now read-only (all your import/export stuff lives in Settings now), and a progress indicator shows up while a backup export or import is running so you're not just staring at a frozen screen wondering if it's working.
If you've already got the app, the update should be available now on the App Store. Android testers — you'll see it in the closed testing build shortly.
As always, if anything feels off or you run into a bug, you know where to find me. More updates coming — I'm not done yet.
